SENIOR BRIDAl MACHINIST

Description Full-time Bridal Machinist

Location Alexandria, Sydney at our Prea James HQ

Position Description

Prea James Bridal is looking for an experienced bridal couture or high-end fashion sample machinist/ dressmaker to work from our Sydney head office in Alexandria, NSW. 

The right candidate will be working alongside our wonderful team of in-house seamstresses making our bride’s made-to-order gowns from both our core collection and also our demi-couture range of high end gowns as well as new style development. 

We are looking for a senior machinist with experience working with couture techniques, luxury fabrications and finishes, who understands how to read patterns and can both follow a sample but also come up with new ways to construct garments during the design development phase. For this reason, at least 5-10 year’s experience at this level is preferred. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for making first samples of new styles and problem solving construction details

  • Construct sample gowns and customer orders

  • Interpret instructions from cutters, pattern makers and designers.

  • Writing detailed notes on how to sew each gown

  • Guiding other team members of the workroom to ensure a high level of quality for each gown

Preferred Skills

  • 10+ year’s experience preferred

  • Knowledge of different fabric types and garment construction

  • Experience working with silk and fine fabrics 

  • Experienced in corsetry 

  • Basic understanding of pattern cutting

  • Good understanding and knowledge of couture sewing techniques and garment construction

  • Sound communication skills
